Have a Wonderful Day... Welcome to Fall!

The Town of Los Gatos operates under the Council/Manager form of government, a system that combines the policy leadership of elected officials in the form of a Town Council, with the professional, managerial, and leadership expertise of an appointed Town Manager. Monte Sereno, with whom we share some services, is much smaller but is a city, not a town.

Apparently there are 481 incorporated municipalities in California, of which 459 are called cities and 22 are called towns."  We are in a unique position being that we are one of just a few handfuls of towns in the state.

Los Gatos is an interesting, exciting, and welcoming town.  If you're relocting to the area, it's a fantastic place to visit and live.  Please call or email me if you'd like to know more about this fabulous town or our los gatos apartments!

In July 2010 Los Gatos waved goodbye to the 24,000-square-foot Safeway it knew. The store was completely torn down and demolished. A year later, the doors are now open to the new 44,000-square-foot Safeway, at 470 No. Santa Cruz Ave., and finally allowing people back in with much anticipation!

The new store features an underground parking garage that brings the number of spots from 31 to 160 spaces, an indoor Starbucks, 24-hour service, more than 20 different departments, including floral design, frozen foods, produce, meat and more.

Check it out and tell us what you think about the new store!

Autumn leaves are so beautiful on trees and even on the ground. Kids and adults alike are mesmerized by the rainbow of warm colors. You just can’t help but pick up pretty fallen leaves from the ground! Here’s a way to preserve their beauty and add some fall fancy to the inside of your house.

This arts and crafts project is not only easy, but it’s as cheap as any project could possibly be. If you have leaves outside and waxed paper and an iron inside, I bet you could do it right now! But, you may want to wait for the kids to get home from school—they’re the one’s who will really get a kick out of it.

First, go for a walk and pick up lots of pretty leaves. Gently wash and dry them (if necessary) when you get home. Lay a sheet of waxed paper on an ironing board, then arrange the leaves on it to make a collage or patter. Place another sheet of waxed paper on top, then iron the paper to make the two sheets stick together, holding the leaves inside.

Hang your waxed paper leaf art on the refrigerator, in a window like stained glass, or put it in a frame for “sophisticated” fall decor! You can even cut out individual leaves to make magnets or tape the little leaves to windows.

Yields 2 loaves

  • 1 stick butter, melted
  • ½ cup white sugar
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 4 ripe bananas, mashed
  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 cup blueberries, fresh or frozen

Grease and flour two loaf tins. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Place the melted butter in a medium to large bowl.
Add the white and brown sugars and stir until the mixture looks like wet sand. Stir in the egg until combined, then add the mayonnaise and mashed bananas. Sift together the flour and baking powder and gradually stir into the batter until you no longer see any traces of flour. Toss the blueberries with 2 tablespoons flour and then fold into the batter (this keeps the berries from sinking to the bottom of the tin).Pour the batter into the two prepared loaf tins and bake for 45-60 minutes.
Remove from oven and allow to cool for several minutes before removing from tin.

The properties of natural light are well-known. It expands your space, brightens dark corners and gives your home an airy feel. If you're selling your home - or even if you're not - try adopting some designer tricks to increase your home's natural wattage.

Paint is one of the least expensive and most effective ways of lightening up your home. Light colors reflect light and bounce it back, making a space look larger. And yes, painting your woodwork cream or white is allowed and does increase your light quotient.

Mirrors also bounce back natural light, but they should be used sparingly. Bring in the outdoors by hanging a mirror opposite a window.

Light-colored gauzy curtains or plantation shutters also contribute to that airy look. Louvered blinds can be tipped to take advantage of the sunlight as it makes its way around the room. And don't forget that slipcovering your furniture in lighter-colored fabrics is another easy way to lighten up.

If you're prepared to make structural changes, adding a skylight to a dark room is effective, but trimming back outdoor trees and shrubs that are filtering the light may do the trick for less money.
